Special Advisor – China
Dr. Hongxia Duan, Senior Researcher, is a Special Advisor with IISD examining sustainable development policies in China, including the transition of the energy system towards lower carbon pathways, related to market-based approaches to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and related fiscal policy and financing options. Dr. Duan also examines energy-related and clean technology aspects of regional and bilateral trade and investment.
Previously, Dr. Duan worked as a Senior Advisor for IISD. She has also consulted on environmental policy projects for the Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy (PRCEE) with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, P.R. China. She was also an Associate Professor at the School of Economics, Xiamen University in China, and a Visiting Scholar at the Center for European Economics Research (ZEW) in Germany. Prior to this, Dr. Duan worked at the Center for Development Research with the University of Bonn in Germany as a Scientific Advisor for the International Project Office, Global Water System Project (GWSP) She was also a Senior Program Officer for the Secretariat of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP).
