Deborah Murphy
Senior Associate
Deborah Murphy has more than twelve years experience working on climate change issues.
Much of her work focuses on the climate change regime at the international, national and regional levels. Her recent work has involved research, policy analysis and capacity building on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD); agriculture; climate change governance; and more fully exploring the linkages between climate change and other policy frameworks (clean energy, foreign policy, and international development). She also works as an international development consultant on environmental projects with the Canadian International Development Agency.
Prior to joining IISD, Deborah’s work in the private sector as Vice President with Resource Futures International included lengthy research and consulting assignments in India and China in the area of climate change. She has extensive experience with international development cooperation projects in the environment sector, including managing projects with CIDA, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and United Nations agencies. Prior to this, she was Senior Policy Advisor at Environment Canada, responsible for managing domestic and international environmental technology cooperation initiatives.
